New ideas/offers of speakers/topics

Joint BCS Oxon / Chester and North Wales Branch Meeting

BD had been contacted by Paul Hulse and John Kewley (C & NW Branch) who were keen to have another joint event. They had suggested a meeting in Second Life, but details of how this could be implemented are still to be worked out.

Speaker from the Serious Games Institute

BD had heard a programme on the Radio discussing the Serious Games Institute, and thought this might be a possible topic area.
The Serious Games Institute is based at Coventry University's Technology park, and has a particular focus on 3D collaborative multi-user environments and other games development platforms which can be harnessed for non-entertainment purposes.

Sophos Virus Lab Visit

A visit to the Virus Lab (which could take 12–14 people at a time) with a more formal talk at Sophos. It may be possible to have two parallel groups rotating between the sub-events.

This could be a good source of local speakers, and the Institute is particularly active in the social side of Computing and the Internet

Paul Vincent had volunteered a talk.

RDF Databases

When Tom Ilube gave his talk this year he volunteered one of his more technical colleagues to provide a talk on issues surrounding creating one of the world's largest RDF triples databases.

AW noted that the winner of this year's Young Scientist of the Year was based in Oxford. This might be a good local connection.
